PEI Roadrunners 2019 Rookie of the Year: Anne MacArthur
Anne became a member of the PEI Roadrunners Club in 2019, and boy are we lucky to have her! Anne is a member of the Turbo Turtles group, identifiable by their bright pink t-shirts, big smiles, and winning attitudes, and Anne is certainly no exception to this.
As a rookie Roadrunner, Anne really showed up! She finished the points standings in first place for her age category, with a total of 125 points. Among the many points races she completed were the Points East Lighthouse Relay, where she ran the entire 30 km, the Brookvale Ultra 25km, and the PEI Half Marathon. Anne also completed several other events both on and off-island, with perhaps the most impressive being the 50km at the Capes 100 in August 2019.
Anne is seen as a leader among her running peers, and not just because she leads run clinics for the Running Room. As one of the people who nominated Anne for this award stated: “She is a true leader in my opinion who has gone through cancer and kept on going!”.
Congratulations Anne! Your smiling face and great attitude have been a welcome addition to our club, and we look forward to many more miles with you as a member. Someday we will present you with your fancy award and a lovely prize from award sponsor Stewart McKelvey!
PEI Roadrunners Most Improved Runner 2019: Trish Cameron
“The man who moves a mountain begins by carrying away small stones.” – Confucius
This year’s recipient of the Most Improved Runner award was nominated based on her increased focus on her training, with small adjustments that led to overall improvement in her results. Trish’s followers on Strava noticed faster average paces on her runs and some impressive race times. As one of the people who nominated her for this award put it: “the time and effort she put into hill training, speed training, intervals, and long runs during her training cycles made me want to improve on my training”. Trish also stepped up her cross-training game this year as a member of Reset:Breathe fitness.
Trish posted some impressive times during 2019, including finishing the Proude’s Shoes 5km race in May in a time of 24:36, with an average pace of 4:55, as well as a strong finish at the Sugarloaf Marathon later that month with a time of 4:11:54.
Trish is known amongst the running community as a dedicated runner, who is always positive and humble.
