Congratulations David Boyce, our 2017 Volunteer of the Year.

David seems to show up at races in jeans & a safety vest as often, or more, than showing up with his sneakers and bib.

He’s one of those “do whatever needs doing” people and probably did every volunteer job there is at a race over the years.

Then he took on Race Directing, taking over the Freeze Your Gizzard in 2015. There, he has done a beautiful job of expanding this great event, adding a 5K and, with that, even higher participant numbers. He and his band of volunteers, from the registration mugs to the chili and door prizes, and all those km’s in between, have elevated this event to be one of the best on our schedule.

Even when he leaves the safety vest home and signs up to run, sometimes he still can’t stop volunteering. He has pace bunny’d at many races in the last few years and he is always spot on the pace.

He paced the 1:55 Half Marathon in 2017, finishing 3 seconds ahead of that. The following week he put the ears away, went to Moncton, and crushed his Marathon PB, taking more than 20 minutes off his best time, going sub-4 hours for the first time, finishing in 3:38:24!

And David is a President himself, Heading TriPEI’s Board of Directors. And volunteers at a number of TriPEI & PEI Roadrunner events.

janet would like to thank David for the ear, opinions and council he gave her before, and in the months after, she took on the Presidency.

Congratulations & thanks from all of us David!
